DANCE=MUSIC SERIES 3, “SHIFT AND CHANGE” a collaborative performance between contemporary dance and improvisation music. This performance will be held on May 30 (Thursday), 9pm at Toccata Studio, 19B, ss2/55, Petaling Jaya. Local famous contemporary dancer Aida Redza together with local young music composer Ng Chor Guan will bring the audiences an unprecedented performance. 

Aside from traditional and fixed choreography, “SHIFT AND CHANGE” an experimental improvisation performance in dance as well as in Music will show the infinite possibilities through arts. Aida is one of the most intense and controversial dancer from Malaysia. Her performances, both in local and international, has been varied, but always bearing Aida's unmistakable stamp of dream, play, resistance and revolution.

Toccata Studio, which promotes arts, music and culture primarily, is not only a platform for musicians but it is also a place for various forms of music and arts. We welcome everyone to join us in our effort of creating awareness of arts and join us in supporting our promotion for music and arts.

Music Mind Games “An Introductory Course”

Speaker: Ms. Moon Teng YAP , certified MMG trainer and assistant for Michiko YURKO
Participants: Music teachers, early childhood educators and parents, with or without music background.

What is Music Mind Games (MMG)?

MMG is an alternative method to teaching music theory. Developed by Michiko YURKO, MMG is the result of more than 30 years of research and development.

Comprising of more than 300 games, the method uses 4 main components:

(a) An innovative teaching sequence
(b) A nurturing philosophy
(c) Friendly, colourful materials

(d) Large variety of creative games

The PURPOSE of this workshop:

To raise awareness among music educators and parents, that there is another alternative in teaching music theory besides graded theory i.e. Grade 1, 2 etc.

MMG strongly believes that children learn through playing. With so many game ideas and materials, children learn musical concepts as they participates in the games themselves; they are learning while having fun!

“TOXIC” a new music concert will be held on 13 April 2013, 8pm at Toccata Studio, 19 B, SS2/55, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. This new music concerts feature musicians including Saxophonist Yong Yandsen, vocalist Kok Siew Wai, Harmonica by Chong Ling zi, mandolin player Azmyl Yunor and electronic by Ng Chor Guan. Together, they will bring to audiences new sound, new inspiration, new music and mew ideas! At a minimum donation of RM20 admission, you get to enjoy a night of miracle.

Toccata Studio, which promotes classical music primarily, is not only a platform for musicians but it is also a place for various forms of music, arts and cultural events and performances alike. We organized performances from time to time, including classical recitals, arts exhibition, dance=music series, travel talks, film screening and more. We welcome everyone to join us to support our promotion for music and arts, hoping to establish an arts community.

“高度戒备”另类音乐即兴演奏会定于 4 月 13 日晚上 8 时正在八打灵 19B, SS2/55 的 Toccata Studio 拉开序幕。 当晚演出的青年音乐家包括声乐家、萨斯克风手、口琴手张龄之及电子音乐黄楚原。他们将即兴为观众现场演出，寻找另类、有趣、创新及真实的音乐语汇。在这场互动的音乐会中，观众将有机会亲眼目睹以上种种乐器现场演奏，亲耳聆听即兴创作。入场以乐捐方式，最低乐捐 20 零吉。

DAWN - live music + live illustration + visual art

Toccata Studio Premiers DAWN, an Original Multimedia Work, Featuring New Music, New Inspiration, New Visual Surprises and New Experiences! Admission: minimum donation of RM30 Contact: 016-3618504 URL: www.mytoccata.blogspot.com FB: Toccata Studio Toccata Studio is proud to present "DAWN", a brand-new multimedia work which incorporates live music, live illustration and video art for an exciting sensory experience. This work will feature original music composed by Ng Chor Guan in collaboration with international comic artist Tan Eng Huat. There will be two performances of “DAWN”, on 29 and 30 March 2013, at Toccata Studio, which is located at 19B, SS2/55, Petaling Jaya. The show will begin at 8 pm sharp. Admission is via a minimum donation of RM30. The performance will feature Ng who will be playing the piano, theremin and laptop, and Tan who will be responding with spontaneous illustrations. They will be joined by video artists Okui Lala and Thian Siew Kim who will transform the space through their video projections. Ng and Tan were able to produce “DAWN” due in part to the Cake Project, which is a kickstarter programme for creative projects held by Toccata Studio as bimonthly event. The Cake Project is very much in line with our mission to provide a platform for artists and musicians, with an emphasis on classical music. It gives the public an affordable avenue to become patrons of music and arts. Ng Chor Guan is a music composer and sound designer for theatre, dance, film, concert music and new media. He began his career as a professional music composer during his years in London. Upon returning to Malaysia in 2006, he collaborated actively with theatrical artists and choreographers, both local and international. His works, which demonstrate an excellent integration of the classical and the contemporary, have been performed in a wide variety of mediums including orchestral, choral, chamber, and electronic music. They have been presented at numerous festivals all over the world and he has been nominated for many awards. Chor Guan also lectures at University Malaya and New Era College. He has also produced 11 albums. Tan Eng Huat began his international career as a comic artist for DC Comics in 2000. He made his debut with Doom Patrol, pencilling and inking a total of 22 issues. His work on Doom Patrol gained him international recognition, winning him two awards in 2002, namely, the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer in the prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards in the US, and The 5th Nation Comic Award for Best New Talent in the UK. Over the years, Eng Huat has worked on many other iconic titles including The Justice League of America – which scored him another Eisner Award nomination in the Best Penciller/Inker category in 2003 – Batman, X-men, Thor, Avengers, Punisher and Deadpool among others. a review of "Across the Channel" a flute recital

huge thanks to our performers FOO CHIE HAUR on flute, OKSANA LIPINSKI on piano, HOWARD NG on oboe. it was a marvelous performance agreed by everyone who attended the show. this is from the audience, Ai Ling Foo: 昨晚出席了一场喜怒哀乐的音乐会。 因为学音乐的关系，因此自小就被逼出席了很多场大大小小的音乐会，年纪渐长，也开始理解到音乐的魅力而渐渐喜欢上音乐。因此我就从被逼观摩到真正的欣赏每一场音乐会。一般上的音乐会，出席者必须有正统的穿着，有很华丽的舞台配上很耀眼的灯光，然后表演舞台离我很远（因为VIP票都很贵），出席者少说也会有两三百人！ 但是，今晚却很庆幸的参与了一个小型的音乐会，没有华丽的灯光，没有华丽的舞台，有的只是很有才华的演奏者，很用心的在传达他们对音乐的热忱和音乐背后的故事，当然也少不了一班真心喜欢音乐的朋友，大家静心闭气的挤在一个房间里，很近距离的沉浸在演奏者的音乐故事中，很享受音乐带给我们的喜怒哀乐的心灵感觉！我不知道大家有没有同感，我却觉得演奏者把人生通过音乐演绎得。。。太棒了！ 看着腼腆的年青人不善语言的介绍着每一首歌的由来，再加上他们很用心的演绎，我只能说。。。谢谢你们的表演，让我渡过了一个很感动的夜晚！
